Her Majesty the Decemberists is the second full-length album by The Decemberists, released on September 9, 2003, by Kill Rock Stars.

Review by Heather Phares

On Her Majesty, the Decemberists' follow-up to their excellent debut, Castaways and Cutouts, the group cements its reputation as a seafaring Belle & Sebastian or a more grounded Neutral Milk Hotel. Tying together sweet symphonic pop with a ragtag theatricality, this album is more ambitious and more scattered than Castaways and Cutouts, making it an initially less accessible and more difficult listen. However, many of Her Majesty's most indulgent moments are among its best, including the high drama of the album opener, "Shanty for the Aretheusa," an epic that runs with the dark beauty that haunted the corners of the Decemberists' debut and gives it a wild, rambling edge...

I have been playing and singing this on my own for weeks or maybe months. Down by the Water by The Decemberists. I wanted to share a link with my band, and this #TinyDeskConcert came up. Just... damn. And the violinist/singer (Sara Watkins, apparently?) does an amazing job of showing how to do exactly the right amount to double the beauty of an already-beautiful song.

Yes, there was a while around 2000–2010 when the 🪗 was on its last big “uprising”

When our show started (2006) and I began writing my #AccordionRevolution book that ended up taking until 2019 😅

The #Decemberists hit #1 in 2010🏆 Then what happened? Not sure.

We’re maybe due for a renewal in time for the 2029 bicentennial of the 1829 patenting of the first instrument called #accordion

You know you’re getting old when your favorite bands start performing with the symphony. That said, this was a fantastic show. My only regret about the picture is that Jenny Conlee got cut out and her enthusiasm was one of the best parts of the show. #decemberists #pdx #concert #oregonsymphony
