My favourite loot from #UKGamesExpo is the signed and numbered limited-edition hardback of "The Dungeon on Blood Island" by @ian_livingstone.

This book is a sequel to #DeathtrapDungeon, published on its 40th anniversary. I lost many lives to Baron Sukumvit's deadly maze as a teenager and the #FightingFantasy books were my gateway drug to #DungeonsAndDragons.

The hardback has a limited print run of 400 copies as a nod to the fact that Fighting Fantasy books always have 400 numbered sections.

@ukgamesexpo Sir #IanLivingstone had a delightful rapport on stage with #JohnRobertson, who played the #adventurer Weak Bruce Nosignal (of the Birmingham Nosignals) as he faced the fiendish challenges of #DeathtrapDungeon in a #live reading with audience interaction.

The original save scumming.
I have no regrets.

#IslandOfTheLizardKing once again has stellar illustrations. Gameplay-wise, it sets itself apart far from the previous book, #DeathtrapDungeon. Essentially any path can be taken to finally confront the evil king. Some paths just make this encounter easier than others.

Concluding on #DeathtrapDungeon , its best design feature overall is, in my opinion, the presence of the other contestants in the dungeon. Finding their footsteps, giving some indication where to go. Then running into their dead bodies, communicating a very real sense of danger.

In spite of all the gruesome monsters, the spookiest section of #DeathtrapDungeon must be the encountering the column of light with the laughing faces. Which all turn to sad faces full of despair when you step inside.

Yup, here is the dinosaur. Excuse me, the "Pit Fiend". It's not even the only skill 12 opponent in the book, there is also a Bloodbeast. A Manticore and a Ninja at skill 11. A Barbarian and a Cave Troll at skill 10. I'm seriously wondering how this book should be beatable without cheating. I doubt there is any realistic chance for characters below skill 11.
