Another Synology Drive Client release, another data-loss bug!
This one's dirt simple: if you create a directory on machine A and save files into that directory on Linux machine B, the new files won't be synchronized to your NAS or back to machine A. This is bad!
If you use Synology Drive Client on Linux, don't upgrade to 8.0.0 unless you want to lose data.

PC Gamer: A data center fire in South Korea sees 858 TB of government files and ‘eight years’ worth of work’ stored in the cloud go up in smoke. “Allegedly, backups simply couldn’t be kept, due to the G-Drive system’s massive capacity. But it gets worse. It turns out that before the fire, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety had apparently instructed government employees to store […]

Oh, wow.... this is why I'm still using WinRAR over 7-Zip or any other alternative. I just found a damaged / corrupt archive within my retro collection. Luckily, WinRAR has the unique capability to self-repair its archives!

Okay, this is genuinely interesting.

Per https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/858tb-of-government-data-may-be-lost-for-good-after-south-korea-data-center-fire/ the South Korean government had an internal storage area which stored 858 TB of data and which "couldn’t have a backup system due to its large capacity". From other figures a few 10Ks of users.

To which my first reaction is: um, right? Let's round that up to 1 PB. A petabyte is quite a good chunk of data, yes, but it is definitely within the realm of backupable. It's 50-100 HDDs striped. *Big deal!*
