Backup: Incremental w/o recurring Full-backup, Delete changes older than x, Selective backup & save other data's metadata ? - Lemmy

1. I like the Incremental backup method, it needs frequent full backups (as i understand from “grandfather, father, son” method), is there a way to have version control where i only create full-backup only once 2. and I can choose to delete changes older than 1 month. 3. How to only backup select files, like only personal data, 4. and a “ghost” for other data. Ghost is only filename and it’s metadata. Data selected for Ghost from internet which can be downloaded. with folder structure. # Related 5. Have a “file change tracker” to see summary of what files are moved/deleted/renamed. 6. “File History” where I see previous version of files. https://restic.net/ [https://restic.net/] https://www.borgbackup.org/ [https://www.borgbackup.org/]

I want to have windows image but have it saved incrementally Is there a way only backup data created by me so the backup is small, and I pull the windows OS data from ISO. Nice to only backup “user data”

Hi Fedi, how do y'all group and sort your media and data? Especially those of you who have sorted this out, what does your system or tree of content look like in your NAS and/or personal home directory?  (Boosts welcome! :3 🔁)

e.g. where do you put Work, Other Important Documents, Not so important documents, Repos, Non-Coding Projects, Projects with both types of sub-projects, Random Office Documents, Music, Photos, Memes, Saved YouTube Videos, Recordings, Screenshots, Papers, eBooks, Scans, Audiobooks, Movies, Podcasts

I guess some of those are easy, e.g. most of the non-personal things, but then again, Audiobooks? group them with other Audio (Music) or other books?

Do you group file type or semantically by topic? or doing both depending on the situation? Or one content-based and one file type based directory tree hardlinked to the same data?

As an Internet Archive user, I scour the Web and turn up mainly software and computer data for preservation. For some time now, I have been trying to locate all the files that were ever uploaded to insaneheat.com and tuxracer.fubaby.com, two defunct fan sites for the racing games #1nsane and Tux Racer, respectively. If anyone has all the files stored somewhere, I would greatly appreciate it and remember to leave an attribution.
