Alpha Flight were talking about Kathleen's novel progress on Day 1 (2:26). #DanOlson's reflections resonated with me, especially as I've been submitting my poetry to journals.

First time I'm doing illumination!

I messed layout up badly and had to restart, alas. Very behind where I wanted to be!

#DanOlson, of #FoldingIdeas, #contrepeneurs video is a great watch but also an excellent summary of the core of the techbros that currently run America. Mediocre leeches that lecture the world on being lazy while spending other people's effort and capital to enrich only themselves. People that couldn't pass a first year comms class because they didn't show up, then claiming college has nothing to teach.

Just the laziest, slimiest, wage-thieving leeches.

Neulich ging das von meinem Domizil diesseits des Atlantiks aus immer mit großem Neid beobachtete XOXO Festival zum letzten Mal über die Bühne. Nun landen die Talks Stück für Stück auf Youtube und unter den ersten Videos ist auch der von mir bereits hier abgefeierte Dan Olson – passenderweise zum von mir im vorherigen Satz bemühten Thema Neid.

Er beschreibt aus sehr persönlicher Sicht einen Struggle, den Menschen, die auch nur im entferntesten Sinne kreativ arbeiten, auch meiner Erfahrung nach sehr oft durchmachen.

Ich kenne es jedenfalls nur zu gut, ein Video zu sehen, einen Podcast zu hören, einen Newsletter zu lesen, auf ein cooles Social-Format zu stoßen, einen Text zu verschlingen und hier und da zu sagen: „I could do that.“ Darauf folgt jedoch unweigerlich „Why am I not doing that?“ und die Spirale aus Selbstzweifeln und selbstblockierende Mechanismen nehmen überhand.

Alle paar Monate, wenn Dan Olson ein neues Video veröffentlicht, knallen bei mir die Sektkorken. Fast anderthalb Stunden lang seziert er in seinem neusten Werk den Angry Video Game Nerd. In meiner Internet-Sozialisierung hat der zwar keine Rolle gespielt, aber das spielt wiederum für dieses Video keine Rolle.

Denn der AVGN aka James Rolfe dient Olson nur als Türöffner für eine Betrachtung viel größerer Themen: Kultur und Kulturkritik auf Youtube bzw. im Internet, das Selbstverständnis der Kulturschaffenden und Creator*innen sowie die veränderte Rolle des Publikums.
