Just a reminder: this is the official account of the cool, indie Chinafake Wiki. Not the depressing Fandom.com one run by a racist. We don't associate with that one, nor do we want to.

'#antifandom' is a thing--'hate-viewing,' idiotic online feuds between '#stans,' obsessively rereading every 'what sucks about XYZ' piece, &c

in #PoliSci this is called 'negative #partisanship' (the tacit leading term in #polarization)

among consumers it's a dimwit intensification of '#brand loyalty'

people '#vote against' as much as they 'vote for'--and consumer habits are obviously, pitifully the same

yes *of course* i'm smugly thinking today of how #chrome has always been #spyware

Did Vox just put out a pro-ship article and call out Puriteens?

What the FUCK?

To be clear, Vox is right on the money here. The anti-sex, pseudo-woke culture where people can't discern fiction from reality is destroying fandoms from the inside out. If you conflate morality in fiction wholly with the morality of reality, you are missing the entire point of fiction.

It's a weirdly well-informed article that doesn't shy away from calling out this conservative, anti-fandom movement. The anti-fandom community is just a bunch of pseudo-woke slacktivists who learned how to be an activist on Tumblr instead of in the real world, so naturally the issues they care about here largely aren't real. It's literally borrowing on the playbook of conservatives in order to virtue signal. It's the worst kind of clout chasing, and we all really need to stop putting up with it. Tumblr conflated real social justice with fake, clout-chasing social justice.

If you don't like a fictional kink or find it morally reprehensible, don't look at it. Just because someone may find something in fiction reprehensible doesn't mean it needs to be banned. That's literally what conservative Christians do, and it's why we call this kind of bullshit "puritanism" and refer to y'all as "puriteens" cuz y'all fucking are. If someone takes a dangerous concept or kink into the real world, by all means call that out, but fiction is fiction. Get over it.

This is why I like the Fediverse so much. It's really easy to find a community that is into your interests with a moderation level that you're comfortable with, as well as having robust user and tag blocking. The one-size-fits-all moderation approach on larger websites is why we're in this Puriteen mess to begin with. CubHub hosts the content I'm comfortable with at a moderation level that I think works best with feedback from the community, and it's meant for people who feel similarly to me. Other instances may not be comfortable with ABDL content and moderate it, while other instances allow kinks that I'm not comfortable with and I moderate accordingly. Mastodon should absolutely have better tools for admins to moderate other instances with more granularity instead of the blunt force hammer it provides, but it's still far better than Twitter or Tumblr.

Anyway, that's my big rant for the day. Kinda curious what people's thoughts are here.

Vox

This is relevant to #fandom, and it's the kind of behaviour we need to be wary of, because that way lies 🐜 🐜 🐜

Mastodon has been (except for that one instance?) pretty much free of #antifandom toxicity, and perhaps that was by virtue of distance from the central hubs or whatever, but just because fandom is coming it doesn't mean we should accept that the culture here will change.

I've been watching the twitter flood with my ironic broken-brained detachment and also popcorn but the one thing making my blood pressure spike is all the people who've been here 5 minutes reporting people for posting fully-CW'd nudes/lewds because 'that's not the energy we need here. We don't do that here'. We, in fact, DO do 'that' here and have been doing 'that' here for many years. Take your swerf energy and fuck off to mumsnet
