What helps me with battle descriptions while I am running a #ttrpg campaign is to consider a roll to hit as a roll to damage, especially in #dnd where your defense is a cumulative value of everything you got to defend yourself.
Let them arrows plonk off armor, the broadsword bite into the shield and the spell puff out harmlessly on the sheer willpower of the player.
Not every miss must be a miss.
