The article doesn't mention AI but I keep hearing similar analogies that AI is the fast food version of things. If I want to be a good chef, I don't care what’s happening in the fast food world. I want to serve customers that care about good food

One of the joys of making stuff is the ability to gradually improve a tool. 3 years ago we needed a counter-height table for a party. Couldn't find it online, but I cobbled together something workable if we covered it with a table cloth. Then I added hinges (foldable for compact storage). Now I've added sliding locks (so set up no longer requires a screw driver), and 8mm steel bars to improve stability. Next year maybe I'll finally waterproof the top!
