#Wochenendlektüre: Rebecca F. Kuang, Yellowface (dt. v. Jasmin Humburg), Eichborn.
Klappentext:

#CurrentlyReading Pick-Up by Charles Willeford, on a recommendation from @colorblindcowboy when I put out a querying toot here, looking for books with a jaw-dropping twist.

This is a crime novel set in San Francisco, and written in 1967. It's very good so far. I already have a theory as to what the twist might be. 🧐

#CurrentlyReading Hope this is not going to be as dry & academic as to be unpleasurable to read; otherwise it'll go first on the Did Not Finish pile and then off to the charity shop, hopefully to be enjoyed by a smarter, more patient reader than myself. #Books
Managed to get a good chunk of "Careless People" by Sarah Wynn-Williams read.
Definitely an eye-opener...

I'm #CurrentlyReading _The History of Portugal_ by James M. Anderson

I've been reading it a while off and on, it's not a long book, (I'm 65 pages into a 212 page book) but apparently have been afk every time.

Weird to me how it concisely discusses the high points of Portuguese history, which reads to me like trauma and drama for the people who loved through it, without fail.

The History of Portugal

This informative, concise, and engagingly written work provides the most up-to-date history of Portugal, current through 1999, and gives a full picture of the political, social, cultural, and economic influences that shaped the history of Portugal. Covering the period from Portugal's early conception as a nation through its long history, with emphasis on the dramatic period of the last several decades, this volume culminates with the demise of the Salazar dictatorship and the independence of its colonies. Complete with a timeline for easy reference to events, brief biographies of important people, lists of monarchs and heads of state, and a bibliographic essay, it is the ideal companion for the student or interested reader. In nine chapters, Anderson discusses the geography of Portugal, its prehistoric antecedents, its formation as a nation, and the events that once made it a world leader in exploration, discovery, and imperial power. How and why the country was drawn into the orbit of its large neighbor, Spain, lost much of its empire, and yet managed to regain its independence are examined, along with the trials and tribulations encountered on its journey from monarchy to modern republic. The discussion presents the factors that kept Portugal one of the poorest nations in Europe for most of its existence and the reasons that it is now, leading into the 21st century, closing the economic gap with wealthier nations.

Aktuelle Lektüre der Lektorin: Daniel Schulz, Wir waren wie Brüder, Nagel und Kimche.
Klappentext:

Really enjoying this #NonFiction about the #History of #Photography . Fascinating and readable, the only problem is most of the images are hard-to-decipher greyscale.

I've heard of #PigeonPhotography but somehow never seen images of the birds or the pics they took. The reproductions in the book are better than others. How magnificent they are!
