NelsonWhen I first encountered credit card points, I assumed that the reason there were so many "rewards" was that there would be a discount on things paid for with credit card points instead of simply asking for cash back. I went through the entire menu of gift cards, "experiences" etc. and never found anything at a discount, in fact some things seemed more expensive. Why would you ever not simply ask for cash back?

I have 30,000 credit card points and a desire to see Taipei again. This is tempting.
I have built up over 346k credit card points over four cards so far this year. This weekend, I figured out a way to grab 2k more while grabbing additional points at a 3x rate. Once I'm done with this trip, I need to move the credit limits for two of those cards and close them.
I know that 2.25 cents per point is a good deal, but this feels expensive.
I'm up to 109,977 CSP points, 87,182 United Miles, 30,000 Hyatt Bonus Rewards, and 102,218 Venture X miles. (It's the power of the Welcome Bonus.) By the end of the year, I want to get Hyatt up to 60,000 and then I should be able to cover hotels on the CSP and Hyatt points and cover airfare on the other two for two weeks in Japan. I'm travel-hacking the shit out of my 2026 trip.
