I am currently preparing for my first post-lockdown on-site conferences (besides one in my hometown).
The costs, the effort (family organisation, hotel search, logistics...), the travelling: I find it hard to justify. The more events that are held virtually, the better, cheaper, more CO2-efficient and, above all, more inclusive.

I learned about a #trans person who did not attend the #ExpertFinderSystemsConference in Florida because they felt unsafe at the #conference location due to the legislation and anti #LGBTQ climate there.
#Academia, do you consider this when deciding on a conference location? I would hate to organize a conference where some people feel not safe because of their identity.
