#Hurricanes is nothing new, But frequency and strength of these vary with #GlobalWarming heating the oceans.
This will continue to amplify as a funcion of accumulation of #ClimateEmissions in the #atmosphere https://edition.cnn.com/2025/10/29/climate/ocean-warming-effect-hurricane-melissa

Why Hurricane Melissa turned into a supercharged monster

Hotter-than-average Caribbean water made Hurricane Melissa stronger and wetter. Its part of a trend that scientists link back to climate change.

The good news: In many countries, including the U.S., we reduced our #ClimateEmissions - and with a booming economy!
This is great, as economies and profit were previously closely tied to emitting #GreenhouseGases.

Carbon capture strategies, natural or technicial, aren't going to scale quickly enough to address the #ClimateCrisis. Reducing #ClimateEmissions must be our primary strategy

As long as consumers continue to choose to buy their fizzy drinks and bottled water in plastic bottles, the drinks companies will continue to produce plastic bottles. With all of the #ClimateEmissions and #MicroPlastic pollution that implies.

Businesses are about supply and demand. If the demand goes away because consumers choose more environmentally friendly options like aluminium cans, the problem goes away too.

So just FYI, last week I has my first #astronomy #businesstrip in ~3 years (longer than 45min) and of course I did it by #train. ~2500km in total, arrival 1x 10min late, 1x on time, with decent enough wifi on board (ICE and TGV) to co-host a seminar, participate in a videocon, and to use Overleaf et al.

Price difference 1st class train to economy flying was small, time was a bit extra, but train saved #climateemissions of 370-500kgCO2eq.

I think the big takeaways from this #NYTimes article (https://nyti.ms/3V9Eqsm) are:

1. Driving less will drive down your #climateemissions & is a great way to take #climateaction
2. Communities need to invest in #publictransit powered by #cleanenergy.
3. Individual action is important but #urbanplanning, #climatelegislation, and building #resilience in communities should be our priority.
