I've never had much contact with my father's side of the family, so my paternal granddad (pictured) is particularly a mystery to me. I knew he was a maths teacher (and eventually high school principal), but I didn't know he had a BA and an MSc. Even before he enlisted, he'd spent four years as a civilian instructor for the #RAAF (air force) and army reserves. I knew he married a music teacher, but it turns out he also conducted the #ChartersTowers Municipal Choir and Orchestra. (2/3)

In the town I was born in, #ChartersTowers in #Queensland, my maternal Grandmother had a small herd that had gone feral. They always stayed close to her house though, just hidden in the scrub.

She had an ancient rifle by her bed & at age 70+ would occasionally wonder out into the bush & shoot one for dinner & give the rest of her kill to her son’s & daughter’s families.

The town also had #goatraces at the #velodrome.

#MacrossanBridge at #Sellheim near #ChartersTowers yesterday.

The #BurdekinRiver there is usually a trickle & a playground for 4WD users.

But - it floods & closes the bridge when there is huge rain.
