Lining the top of the two outer pavilions, each caryatid is unique and holds an item relates to the arts or the sciences. Between them are carved the names musicians, artists and scientists.

William Mossman Junior's set of eight caryatids on the surviving facade of the 1870s St Andrew's Halls in Glasgow. Designed by James Sellars, this was a large concert and function venue. It was taken over by the Glasgow Corporation in 1889, and burned down in 1962, with only the western facade being saved, and later incorporated into an extension of the neighbouring Mitchel Library.

The twin caryatid pillars of Mel and Ania were supposed to be in this scene from an original lost cut of Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain, but were cut for being too ominous. Never seen until this recent restoration! #TrueInternetFact

One of the rather wonderful caryatids above one of the George Square entrances to Merchants' House in Glasgow. It was scupted by James Young and was created in the 1870s. The coat of arms at her base is that of the City of Glasgow.

I love these Caryatids holding up an oriel window on the West George Street facade of the Merchants' House in central Glasgow. They just look so much more relaxed than most similar sculptures.
