"A talk on #Jewish culture will go ahead next month after it was postponed over fears of disruption.

The #British #Museum has confirmed that the event, part of #JewishCulture Month and focusing on the #ancient #history of #Israel and #Judah, will take place in early June.

The #lecture was originally scheduled to take place on Thursday afternoon but was postponed due to concerns that a "significant proportion" of attendees intended to disrupt the event.

The museum said the decision was taken "to protect the event — not to diminish it".

The #BritishMuseum said: "Alongside our partners at #JewishCultureMonth, we are pleased that the rescheduled lecture, The #AncientHistory of Israel and Judah, will take place early next month."

It was also expected to touch on other #historical events such as the #Babylonian destruction of #Jerusalem and the #Maccabean revolt, and was organised as part of the first ever #Jewishculturemonth in the #UK, which runs until 16 June.

However, less than 24 hours before the event, the museum said it would be postponed. In a statement, the museum said it was informed that a “significant proportion” of the registered attendees were “individuals intending to deliberately disrupt the event[...]”
