The family of a hostage killed in Houston during a botched rescue in 2018 will receive more than $2 million in compensation after a judge ruled an FBI agent was "grossly negligent" in the man’s death.

Family of hostage killed in Houston in 2018 awarded $2.4 million for FBI agent’s negligence

On Jan. 25, 2018, law enforcement raided a Houston residence after 47-year-old Ulises Valladares was kidnapped for ransom by men claiming to be part of a Mexican cartel. During the raid, Valladares was fatally shot by authorities.
