Car-free day, Brussels, 2025.

Cars ruin cities.
People are awesome.

90% of those we passed smiled or cheered. Nearly all kids bobbed instantly, with happy dancing parents following suit. Wild idea, but I think not being continuously flanked at near-death distance might have something to do with it.

Care-free days like these emphasize how nonsensical day-to-day life is in capitalism, a system that has pitted every one of us against each other.

Politie in actie, ook voor kleine banden. Samen maken we de buurt sterk. 🚲👮‍♂️ La police, toujours aux côtés de la communauté. Même pour regonfler un vélo. 🚲👮‍♂️ Police at work, even for little wheels. Together we build trust. 🚲👮‍♂️ @zpz_polbru 🤝 #carfreesunday #autolozezondag
Short cycle saturday and a light repair #CarFreeSunday ;) #BikeLove
Les Bruxellois favorables à davantage de journées sans voiture

Dans le cadre de la semaine de la mobilité, les rues de la Région bruxelloise seront réservées à la mobilité douce ce 21 septembre.

Le Soir

Seeing so many children out on their bikes when the steel killing machines are banned for a day is so nice. The lack of noise is fantastic too.

Cities are not noisy. Cars are.

Finally got to visit Ayala and #MakeItMakati's #CarFreeSunday.

Ayala avenue itself is not #CarFree, and the only stretch of road that was closed to motorized vehicles is the segment of Paseo de Roxas, between Ayala and Makati Avenues. Glad to see they kept the #bikelane|s, thanks to dedicated folks who pushed against a plan to remove them.

Most of the bikelane surfaces look worse than before, with many unpatched or unevenly patched roadwork. 😑

Favorite day in the year in #Brussels : #carfreesunday #journeesansvoiture - wishing everyone a #happysunday exploring a city for people, not cars 🚴 🚲 🏃‍♂️ 🌳

@bryan @Bman Not only is that a mischaracterisation of what 'the #bancars people' actually believe, it's also incredibly short-sighted.

The planet doesn't have time to wait for us to get to step 132.000. We can do a few steps, and then pull the plug on the whole thing, even if the status quo isn't _perfect_ for car-free living.

I live in #Brussels. I can cycle across the city (border-to-border) within 1 hour. I could walk across the city if I wanted to. The internal public transport is serviceable, and the connection to outside towns and cities is excellent. Barring public outcry, the city could ban cars NOW, even though a lot of the city is an asphalt hellscape.

We even have a yearly #CarFreeSunday, which mostly goes without a hitch.
