“Owning a car only adds to the financial stress that a lot of particularly young people feel living here. And there’s not a ton of parking. There’s a lot of snow in the winter, so you have to dig out your parking spot. Fights break out because people perceive that others are trying to take their spot from them. So the idea of having a car here doesn’t appeal to me at all.”

In #Bucharest old town beautiful grand buildings grace the Calea Victoriei. On #carfree Saturdays, many people walk on the street, there is no car traffic and the general atmosphere is calm and relaxed, for families with strollers as well as escooters. #bucuresti #carfreecities #carfreeday #romania

Another shot of Americans LOVING a #walkable city. Unfortunately, it's not a real city. How about we build our real cities this way?

‘People are proud of this green spirit of ours’: how a small Spanish city rejected cars

Decades ago, when many other European cities were building more road capacity, Vitoria-Gasteiz took a very different path

Grest work in Paris to tax these useless monstrosity monster SUVs. We need to ban these things from coming to Europe.

Paris is saying ‘non’ to a US-style hellscape of supersized cars – and so should the rest of Europe

From emissions to road deaths, the trend for ever-bigger SUVs is a disaster. We need regulation to turn the car industry back to smaller vehicles

The Guardian

We get a free newspaper every week (Delft op zondag) with a comparison column "back in the day -today" and I find it horrifying to imagine living in this beautiful city during car-centric times. #carfreecities

(What you can't see in the Delft today picture is that between the trees are, besides bike parking, tables and chairs from the local restaurants and pubs. Also, some cars with a permit can still drive there, mostly to deliver to the local shops in the morning)
