This @HalvarFlake keynote from #CyCon 2018 is probably as relevant today as it was then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q98foLaAfX8

Fantastic watch.

Keynote by Mr. Thomas Dullien - CyCon 2018

The work presented by @arunninghacker at #CyCon should be an overdue wake-up call to Western tech companies:
russian military apps are actively leveraging Western cloud infrastructure, open-source maps, and Android's sideloading model to support battlefield operations against #ukraine

Without proactive countermeasures, the tech giants of the free world become passive accomplices of the aggressor.

Here's what companies can do to stop enabling aggressor's warfare by negligence:
⦿ Monitor cloud usage for signs of military activity
⦿ Enforce geofencing & API restrictions on russian actors
⦿ Scrutinize app ecosystem and flag military-grade tools
⦿ Rethink tech neutrality in times of war

Complicity through inaction is not neutral.

Russia’s Military Apps Use West’s Open Infrastructure

Russian developers are taking advantage of the West’s decentralised platforms for app development to make new military technology.

Here with @Tarah at #CyCon in Tallinn watching @strandjs drop jaws and open minds while giving the most amazing crash course on deception techniques that orgs can use to detect intrusion attempts.

Indicative of just how much @blackhillsinfosec is always giving back: this is the equivalent of a multi day thousand dollar training being given away for free... something that they do ALL the time in order to give back to the community.

During #CyCon'23 General Chris Badia @NATO_ACT underlined that military is not to command other actors. Collaboration and coordination will be of mutual benefit. This is what civ-mil cooperation must strive towards in order to explicitly include industry as a partner.

Juhan Lepassaar from ENISA talking about metrics, measuring input vs. output.

Last year they established the ECSF, European Cyber Skills Framework, that seems to be a bit like NIST NICE framework (but with way fewer roles).

Audience member had a great question on trying to figure out how to open source work role certification requirements (I have lots of thoughts on this that I may expound upon later).

#CyCon

Panel on Military Cyber Defense Under Review.

It seems to be that most of the panelists are using “cyber security” and “cyber defense” a bit different than how I’m used to it being used in US military doctrine. They seem to use security to mean civilian stuff, and defense is military.

With this in mind, figuring out how to get civ and mil on the same page, what is the correct sort of information to pass back and forth, was a huge theme of the panel.
