Sicilianews24.it: L’Istituto “A.

The “A. Manzoni” Institute was awarded for innovative teaching methods at Code Week 2025.

Alessandria della Rocca – The “A. Manzoni” Comprehensive Institute, directed by headmistress Marinella Carmela La Rosa, has received the Certificate of Excellence for its participation in the “Code Week for All” challenge, an initiative promoted within the European Code Week 2025. The recognition rewards schools that consistently promote computational thinking and the development of digital skills among students.

The project was coordinated by teacher Adriana Sardo, Super Organizer of the initiative, and involved numerous classes of the institute. The collaboration between teachers and students transformed the activities into a concrete, dynamic, and highly participatory learning experience.

From October 11th to 26th, the school classrooms transformed into true innovation laboratories. Students experimented with various coding and educational robotics activities: from pathways with CodyRoby and Code.org, to programming Bee-Bot and Doc robots, building command sequences and tackling logical challenges. Unplugged activities on chessboards and pixel art, as well as the design and animation of mechanical models with Lego WeDo 2.0 kits, were also offered.

“Experiencing with coding,” explains teacher Adriana Sardo, “students learn to design solutions, evaluate results, and transform difficulties into opportunities for growth. Through these experiences, they develop autonomy, responsibility, and collaboration skills, which are fundamental not only in technology but also in everyday life and relationships with others.”

The recognition obtained represents confirmation of the “A. Manzoni” Institute’s commitment to promoting an innovative and inclusive school, capable of stimulating students’ curiosity, valuing their talents, and preparing them to confidently and competently face the challenges of the future.

So now it’s Hour of AI, not Hour of Code—because Microsoft president Brad Smith told Code.org it’s time to switch hats (per the article). Code.org says Karim Meghji is becoming President & CEO; it also recently laid off about 14% (18 colleagues). When buzzwords start grooming the curriculum, who gets the hairball? 😼

Long-time Slashdot reader theodp writes: Last July, as Microsoft pledged $4 billion to advance AI education in K-12 schools, Microsoft President Brad Smith told nonprofit Code.org CEO/Founder Hadi Partovi it was time to "switch hats" from coding to AI. He added that "the last 12 years have been ...

So WV is swapping “learn to code” for “prove you’re computer-literate.” House Bill 5387 (introduced Tuesday) would repeal the new standalone CS graduation requirement and replace it with a computer literacy proficiency—prompting pushback from Code.org, per the article. Herding cats, or just teaching reality? 😼
