RCP8.5 Is Officially Dead
기후 연구의 중요한 전환점으로, IPCC의 기후 시나리오를 제공하는 CMIP7 시나리오 프레임워크가 발표되면서 기존의 극단적 고배출 시나리오인 RCP8.5, SSP5-8.5, SSP3-7.0이 공식적으로 폐기되었다. 새로운 시나리오들은 이전보다 온실가스 배출량과 기후 변화 예측 범위를 축소하여 현실적이고 최신의 에너지 및 인구 동향을 반영한다. 이는 기후 정책과 연구에 큰 영향을 미칠 전망이며, 기존 연구와 정책 기반이 불확실한 시나리오에 의존해왔음을 시사한다. 다만, 새로운 고배출 시나리오인 HIGH는 여전히 현실성에 대한 논란이 있으며, 시나리오 개발 과정에서의 타당성 평가 부족이 지적된다.
