One thing I haven't seen brought up yet among the many fundamental problems with LLMs (Is it because there's much lower hanging fruit? Or do I just follow the wrong people?) is the viewpoint of Chan/Zen Buddhism that reality cannot be expressed meaningfully and accurately - and that liberation cannot be achieved - through the constructed illusion that is language. Yet stringing together language devoid of experiences of reality is literally the only thing LLMs can do. Like, they're not only bad at what they claim to be trying to do, but the entire nature of LLMs is fundamentally at odds with the path to liberation.
