While #biking Friday along the #CandOCanal near mile 30.5, we happened to spot a great blue heron across the canal from the towpath. We were impressed with how well it blended into the background along the edge of the canal. This is an unedited photo from my smartphone. Can you see the heron?

C&O Canal and Fort Frederick Near Hagerstown

We visited the C&O Canal's Cushwa Basin at Williamsport, MD and checked out the visitor center before visiting Fort Frederick State Park. We saw the end of a musket firing demonstration, listened to rangers talk, and walked through the fort.

C&O Canal and Fort Frederick Near Hagerstown, Maryland

After leaving Martinsburg, WV in the morning, we visited the C&O Canal's Cushwa Basin at Williamsport, MD. After a brief stroll, we checked out the visitor center and then drove 25 minutes upriver to Fort Frederick State Park. We caught the end of a musket firing demonstration, listened to some rangers talk, and walked through the fort's historical buildings.

Today's waterfall is from the C&O canal in the distant and exotic land known as Maryland. Officially it's known at the "Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park" but everyone calls it "the Maryland side of Great Falls".
