Back in April I mentioned the terrace of cottages on the Bridgewater Canal and the history page I'm building about it. The article mentions "Cotton's Bridge" and includes an old map showing its location.

We were at the cottage back in May and I took these two images of the site of the bridge. You have to be travelling north, having just emerged from Dutton Tunnel to appreciate the narrowing of the canal at the site of the old bridge.

As you will work out the cottages you see to the left of one of the images are part of the terrace numbered 7-12.

Our boat has a dedicated brush in the outside locker just for dog 💩 on shoes.

When you're trying to moor a moving boat, handling ropes, mooring pins, and mallet, it's easy to overlook an abandoned turd.

Dog owners who use the towpath to let their dog out—but who don't pick up after their pet—should be dunked in canal water. And then helped back out, of course. Boaters aren't mean-spirited folk.

Cool dappled footpath,
calls you along the towpath,
by the still water.

We often visit our granddaughter who lives with her Mum in Sale and stay for a few days in a cottage that was probably built in the 1770s and sits on the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal at Preston Brook. The building of the Bridgewater Canal kick-started the Industrial Revolution and the cottage was built at what was to become its junction with the Trent and Mersey Canal. There's a whole lot of history there which I'm beginning uncover in this article.

Along the canal towpath, a mole has pushed up a row of molehills.

A toddler just came and planted a small stick in each hill.

When he grows up, maybe he'll plant flags on mountains.

Same canal at the same gray day as yesterdays post. Now with a view of the monumental swing bridge between East and West Souburg. More about this bridge tomorrow.

We'd emailed the wonderful Liam of https://www.midlandsandcoast.co.uk/ to try to sort out a #coal delivery to #ourplace which fronts the #towpath of the #Bridgewater #Canal. I took a photo of his #boat last time we got #fuel from him. It's based the same distance on one side of #PrestonBrook #bridge as we are the other. This time I needed an emergency supply. He gave me a bag, lent me a barrow to carry it home and said he'd invoice me when he delivered all we have room to store.

As I collected the fuel the sun came out to reveal The Midlands & Coast Canal Carriers Ltd yard in all its glory.
