So many new things to catch up on coming home…and next is a new flower on Pinguicula (moranensis ‘Huahuapan’ x emarginata) HC B x laueana, HC B!
Very difficult to capture the violet-fuchsia color the flower has, and it changes rapidly depending on the exact lighting it’s under.

Many #butterwort species from Mexico have two growth phases. When the weather is dry, they form a tight rosette of succulent leaves. When seasonal moisture arrives, they transition into their carnivorous phase, sporting larger mucilage-covered leaves that catch small insects.

#Pinguicula gigantea catches the few fungus gnats that end up in the grow space, using its large, dewy leaves. From my experience, this species is easy to propagate from leaf pullings. I like giving these away to friends and family.

A few different clones of #Pinguicula emarginata. I recommend this species if you want a small indoor butterwort that will keep its carnivorous leaves year-round and flower frequently. Keep the soil damp using the tray method, and give it bright indirect light.

Pinguicula cyclosecta was my first butterwort, and these were propagated through leaf pullings of that original plant.

My common butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris) has reached its next milestone — full bloom! 💜 Those slender, glandular stalks have been slowly stretching upward for weeks, and now the delicate violet flowers are finally open. The two-lipped shape is characteristic of the genus and acts as a landing platform for small pollinators. It's always a little surprising to see such dainty flowers on a plant whose main claim to fame is catching and digesting insects.

One of my favourite little carnivores is waking up 💜
My common butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris) is pushing out fresh leaves in the bog garden, nestled between wet sphagnum moss exactly as it would be in the wild. Those flat, star-shaped rosette leaves are covered in tiny sticky glands — invisible here but deadly effective for catching small insects and springtails. Butterworts are found naturally in wet, nutrient-poor habitats like bogs, mountain springs, and rocky seeps across Europe and North America. Because they get their nutrients from prey rather than the soil, they thrive where almost nothing else can grow.

Pinguicula (rotundiflora x gracilis) x laueana, HC B flowering again. So far I think this is the only one that’s bloomed, so I still don’t know if this shade of purple is the norm or not.

First update checking things back home: I lost my Yucca do Pinguicula cyclosecta unfortunately but a new locality replacement was got recently…and it’s almost immediately bloomed and started dividing.
Of course I took advantage and crossed it, since the white gigantea, emarginata, and several hybrids are still flowering
