I will feel a lot better tonight if I sort through at least ONE of my big collections...so I'm tackling #Buddyfight

My introduction to Bushiroad's TCGs was Weiß Schwarz, which I'll get to later because I have a shit ton of those to sort through. I don't think I tried Vanguard until later, but I remember seeing a trailer for Buddyfight's launch and I was immediately sold. It's the right mix of serious and silly. Then when it launched, I was absolutely in love with the gameplay. It's exactly the kind of tight no-turns-wasted gameplay a lot of modern TCGs that make games like Pokemon and Magic kind of a slog to me now.

Buddyfight is also one of the only TCGs I played while I was in Japan with strangers. I played a few games with my foreigner classmates but a guy who worked at a card shop there saw me buying it a lot and wanted to try it with me since he was a long time Vanguard player and I guess there was novelty in playing with a foreigner. It was an interesting experience and really drove home that different cultures have different rock paper scissors timing. Anyway my collection is pretty bilingual as a result.

Unfortunately along the way Buddyfight really lost its magic. They got too complicated with the mechanics and special rules and eventually started putting out licensed anime sets...it just lost a lot. The creator left on bad terms and made his own tcg company which...needs its own thread later.

But on that note, I think I'll actually make a separate thread for Buddyfight because I'd really like to post my favorite cards from it.
