Tsundoku could be the operative word here. That Japanese term for getting books, and letting these just accumulate, but not actually reading any. Or, a more benign interpretation, leaving open the possibility of reading these later. Which, I should note, I really do want to, I'm just not quite sure when I'll get to it.
At any rate, this is the top of the stack of books I have not yet read.
.
Top right, clockwise:
Hillary Mantel "The mirror and the light" (loved the first two of the series, but am having trouble "getting into" this one);
Jonathan Franzen "Crossroads" (read several of his books, this is still waiting);
Ian McEwan "What we can know" (one of my fave writers, so a nice xmas gift);
Barbara Kingsolver "Demon Copperhead" (with so many plugging this one, plus a Pulitzer, I just had to get a copy);
Elif Shafak "There are rivers in the sky" (hearing so much praise that it ended up on the stack);
Tony Judd "Postwar" (felt I had to read this one, if only to understand how we got where we find ourselves in this moment, but have only just made it past the first 100 pages)
.
If anyone has similarily "succumbed" to the tsundoku experience, or perhaps just a (hopefully temporary) reading slump, let us know. And if you got back to reading again, I'm super interested in how you did that.

A few favourite books I read long time ago.
.
In no particular order, top row to bottom row, left to right:

Umberto Eco "Foucault's Pendulum" (Dutch translation); Haruki Murakami "Kafka on the Shore" (Dutch translation); Gabriel García Márquez "One Hundred Years of Solitude" (Dutch translation);
Milan Kundera "Immortality" (Dutch translation); Donna Tartt "The Secret History"; J.M. Coetzee "Waiting for the Barbarians"; David Mitchell "Cloud Atlas";
Richard Flanagan "Gould's book of fish"; Tony Morrison "The bluest eye"; Salman Rushdie "The Enchantress of Florence"

I've read most of these more than a decade ago, and although I would struggle to accurately explain the plot, I still remember how it felt reading these - how it felt to be drawn into by the prose, and immersed in the story. These are obviously all very different books, different in subject, style, themes, and times, but all share a degree of magic realism, and a sense of alienation.

these are my February reads so far

most of my ratings are based on the vibes and not on the logistics

West Side Love Story by Priscilla Oliveras has been on my tbr for over a year now, and I am hoping to read it this year. The synopsis make this seem like a Hispanic version of Romeo and Juliet, and it immediately intrigued me.

The Austen Affair by Madeline Bell is a recent addition to my tbr, but the synopsis sounds so intriguing and I can’t wait to see how it goes.

Six Summers to Fall will be the second book that I read from C.W. Farnsworth, and I am hoping it is as good as Left Field Love.

I started the We Were Liars series by E. Lockhart last year, and loved the books I’ve read so far. We Fell Apart is the latest novel for this series. Although it seems like this book focuses on new characters, I can not wait to read it.

I always find it interesting when celebrities write books, and that is what led me to want to read Gone Before Goodbye by Harlan Coben and Reese Witherspoon.

Freida McFadden’s Never Lie is the book that got me back into reading as an adult, so I hope to read few more of her books this year, including her newest release The Intruder. This book’s description gave me the chills just reading that the story takes place in an isolated cabin.
