You never know. A few years ago, this was one of my first #bonsai. Not knowing what I was doing, I purchased a bird’s nest spruce at a local nursery that did not cater to the bonsai crowd because it seemed like a good idea.
Almost got rid of it when it seemed not very much like it was going to have good form. Did a heavy prune to thin it out a bit near the trunk…and now fast forward a couple years and it…um…has exploded with vibrant growth.
Not great form by true bonsai standards…but now one of my favorites for its vigor, thick trunk and because it rose above the soft bigotry of my low expectations.
