Depth of Field on Display

If you've ever wondered about how depth of field impacts your photos, take a look at the thin strip across the center here that's in focus. This photo was taken with an aperture of f5.0, but due to the close range (30cm), only produced a small area of focus on the largest droplet - less than 1cm in front and back. This is your focus plane. A higher number aperture and more distance between your subject will expand this area in focus.

You can calculate this for your camera and focal length. It's good to understand this concept for all types of photography to get your focus down.
