I found a blog post about how to style #Linux to look like #BeOS and that sounded awesome, because i have all the happy nostalgia from BeOS but then I was scrolling through it and I was like… "Actually, BeOS's UI feels kinda dated now."

Which, on the one hand, "duh". On the other, I didn't realize how much a product of their time those buttons and scroll bars and menus were. Now I kind-of want something in between but what would that be?

I have yet to see any - ANY - OS that has the equivalent WOW factor, ever since. Nothing, absolutely nothing comes even close.

Haiku is a poor would-be attempt. Nice, but... eh.

Arrived home to newly acquired, old books. I read all three of these in my youth, but I foolishly gave away my copy of “Programming the Be Operating System”,when I left the UK, and two of my Spike Milligan memoirs were lost in a cellar flood in Munich. I feel a wonderful circular sense of completeness now. #beos #haikuOS #books

Yup, that’s quite familiar. Same boot to MacOS first then to BeOS on my Power Computing PPC tower of roughly the same vintage 200Mhz CPU era. I use it for compiling PPC versions of BeShare and VNCServer etc, for the boast of shipping for the most #BeOS & #HaikuOS varieties.
