Whenever I use silicone moulds to make chocolate, I start to get this powdery residue after washing. I've tried soaking them in boiling soapy water, I've given them a good scrub with the sponge, but it remains. I've seen one post online saying it might be cocoa butter? But I can't find anything definitive.

Does anyone know what it is and if it's harmful? It only appears after I've made chocolate in it a few times. If it makes a difference, I used plain chocolate with additional mint or orange oil. Sometimes I put it in the freezer to help it set faster.

The daughter wants a red velvet roll - with no red dye - as a birthday cake. I have an old recipe for red velvet cake, but I don’t know about converting it to a rollable cake. I can’t afford the ingredients to experiment much.
All the red velvet roll recipes I can find online or in my cookbooks require red dye, and many specify that it’s necessary for texture and taste.
I need a recipe please!

#bakers of Mastodon: why is my bread so frigging dense? I've made this "rustic loaf" four times now and I just can't get it to rise like in the photo on the recipe page. I've tried letting it rise on the parchment so that I don't disturb it as much when transferring to the oven tray. I've tried letting it proof for 4 hours instead of the suggested 1-3.
This isn't sourdough. I'm using instant yeast.

It tastes fine, but it's got the density of cheap breadmaker bread.

If I have proofed my dough, and it is an hour before I need to bake it, can I put it in the refrigerator, so it doesn’t overproof? Or will that murder the little yeasty babies? 💀
