This was a hopeful sight, another positive development that confirms my impression that the changes in the yard, towards de-lawning and more native plants, are having a positive effect on the insect population.

We've always had these spiders. But this is the first year I see that every branch of the hedge is occupied by a web (the bottom part of the hedge also has cobwebs, just not visible). It looks like a bug skyscraper.

A couple of months ago i decided to let my [not exactly ginormous, but not nothing either] backyard re-wild, simply by asking my mowing-fella to skip it & only do the front & sides for now. My primary incentive was hope for encouraging the lovely sulphur-cresteds, corellas, & crimson rosellas that used to frequent these parts in bygone years, to return. So far, alas, they've not; bwaaah. Was thus beginning to wonder if maybe giving up & getting it mowed again with the rest, but...

...this morning, from one of my windows, a saw a lovely tubby skink / blue-tongue, about 300 - 400 mm long, & maybe 50 - 75 mm diameter. Yay!

So, the re-wilding shall continue anon!
