I have two more paintings up for auction on Heritage. When Jim Baen offered me Poul Anderson’s latest series, (written with his wife Karen) I was thrilled. I’d been a fan of Paul for many years and read him when I was a kid. I had done the cover for Poul’s “Firetime”.
Even though I consider these to be some of my best paintings, I have never had them up in our house, and I finally decided to sell them.

Wow - Baen just put out a press release saying that I am the grand prize winner of the Baen Fantasy Adventure Award for my story The Wish Doctor! https://www.baen.com/prwinner2024bfaa

They say they are going to give me an award at Dragon Con in Atlanta at the end of August, but I can't help but think it might be a trap...

Congrats to the other winners, Shannon Fox and J.M. Roberts, and honorable mentionees Robert F. Lowell and David Hankins.

Over time, I've come to the conclusion that it's best to reject purchasing any ebooks which come wrapped in #DRM - they are just too much of a hassle. This is hard as there aren't many publishers that don't use it (the best known to me are #Tor and #Baen ) plus for indie authors there is #Smashwords . Sadly, this only leaves hardcopies or library borrowing for the rest (unless you resort to piracy, which has its own issues).

Back when I started school in 2016, I was reading the #HonorHarrington novels from #DavidWeber and had to stop to focus on my classes. I finished school almost a year ago now and decided I need to get to reading those again, so I looked at the #BAEN website and found that there was only one novel left. I was almost finished when I stopped and didn't even realize it!

Anyway, it just arrived today and I can't wait to get into it. Problem is, I don't really remember what was going on in the story now. I thought of just skimming through the previous novel to try to get some idea, or even just starting over and reading all 14 novels straight through. As much as those options appeal to me, I may just dive into this last one and hope there is enough material to bring me up to speed on past events.

After I finish this series, there are a lot of other novels set in the same universe that I haven't even touched yet, and other completely different novels from Weber in collaboration with other authors that I want to get into also.

I was reading some #PeterHamilton too, so I need to see what he's published since 2016 and start in on those as well. But first, Weber.

It's going to be nice to start reading again after all these years.

I was also on the #TimPowers train for many years, but it’s been so long since I truly enjoyed one of his novels that I think I’ve jumped off.

Though it was worth sticking around long enough to see the incongruity of him being published by #Baen Books.

So, how are the Good Gentlemen of #Baen's Bar reacting Dilbert being canceled due to Scott Adams's Rampant Racism?

Did you guess "Defending Adams, and creating a thread justifying Scientific-Racism, and propagating bigoted 'Urban Problem' slurs"? Then you would of course be correct.

Blasters and Blades hosted a panel with some #horror #writers, myself, and the publisher of #Baen. Was a fantastic time. Good conversation about the nature of horror, writing it, and its effect on pop culture.
