Vorbereitung der Reise Die Reise nach Kreta wurde von meiner Frau und mir bereits zwei Monate vor Antritt geplant. Alles schien in "trockenen Tüchern". Die Zugtickets von Stuttgart nach Frankfurt wie auch zurück waren gebucht, da unser Flug nach Heraklion von Frankfurt aus beginnen sollte. A few days ago, @Colby mentioned the Auto Union 1000 SP, produced from 1958 to 1965, which bears a certain resemblance to the recently featured Simca Aronde Plein Ciel and Sunbeam Alpine. I saw this convertible version of the Auto Union at Techno Classica Essen in 2014.

The Auto Union 1000 is a luxury compact front-wheel drive automobile manufactured by Auto Union GmbH between 1958 and 1965. It was the first (and in many markets the last) model branded as an Auto Union by the manufacturer since the 1930s; it replaced the DKW 3=6, although the latter continued in production until the end of 1959.[3] ...

I mentioned previously that Auto Union was the parent company for its four constituent brands - Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. A modern analogy would be Stellantis setting up a race team under its own name, rather than, say, Peugeot or Citroën. After the War, Auto Union branding was also used for road cars like this 1950s 1000 SP (Techno Classica 2014).
