Austin TV is a Mexico City based five-piece that creates progressive rock stays within a shouting distance of post-rock. Their music shifts between pensive and intense, paying attention to tone shifts and song dynamics, though they generally avoid getting into stretches of mood setting and cathartic build-up that are somewhat characteristic of the post-rock approach. They are one of those bands whose members perform behind masks and use nicknames (also see The Residents, Snapped Ankles, Goat) though their identities are not exactly a state secret. Their songs are all instrumental, although there are occasional spoken words interspersed across their pieces. They took a long break in 2012, before they came back in 2023 with their album Rizoma, which finds them getting right back into their well-established sound.
(Mexico City based) Austin TV came back after a long break with a new album last year. The epic sound of "De La Orquídea y La Avispa" grabbed us right from the get-go, so it's our #SongoftheDay.
