@jsnell You've said on Upgrade how you've used in-ear monitors for something like... 20 years? Do you have any advice for someone interested in getting their first pair? Do you recommend any particular brand(s)? How long does a pair tend to last you? How many times have you had to get impressions, or are you still somehow on your first mold?

@upgrade #askupgrade Hey Jason - when I use my gas utility’s app, or my electricity utility’s app, to pay my bill… is Apple taking 30% of that? Surely not, the utilities are far too greedy to allow that money to be taken and not make us pay them back for it. So what gives? Is there a carveout in App Store fees for municipal utilities? For paying a bill for a service started somewhere else?

Regarding this week’s discussion about Apple putting a fingerprint sensor on a side button, do you think the button would have a sufficient width in order to accurately and reliably scan enough of a fingerprint for authentication? The side buttons are quite thin, so I imagine it would require many stored scans per fingerprint for accurate matches.

Idle thought re permissions: Maybe it is time to have a “macOS Pro” option? One that gives devs and pros more options and freedom, including the freedom to mess stuff up? Sounds un-Apple-y but we also had a OSX server version for quite a while.

@jsnell hi! in 2022 you wrote about the potential end of Network Locations, and how MarcoPolo/ControlPlane worked with them. It looks like Locations are still a thing, though?
Do you know of a tool that could do the same thing these used to do?
I wanted to change my DNS across all connections whenever my VPN is on, and revert when it’s off, but manually adding LaunchAgents seems fragile and bad…

Ola @upgrade! Long time listener, first time #AskUpgrade -r. I'm really interested in Apple Vision Pro as a productivity tool, but do you know if there's anyway to physically connect other things to it?

Would love to use my favourite keyboard (the Microsoft Sculpt) with it but it relies on a USB receiver for it's connection. Or alternatively, HDMI video-in from a gaming console with a USB-C adapter with a hypothetical visionOS version of Orion. Would love to use Apple Vision Pro as a virtual display for my Xbox! Maybe a hub maybe be connected the USB-C in port on it's battery pack? Thanks! From Melbourne, Australia <3
