Young Guppy’s Wild Ride

Funny thing yesterday. I don’t get so attached to an individual fish usually…

I have two small tanks high over the top of the main aquarium which is full of fish and plants.

A small tank above was too over stocked with a big guppy and three small breed guppies…decided to move the large one out.

Went to begin the task and one of the three small was missing.

Nothing floating/sinking…nothing stuck to a filter inlet…just gone. Usually I look at the floor around the tanks but nothing noted.

Later in the day, was removing excess vegetation in the big tank…and there he was…hiding like a tiny fish in a big pond! That leap was almost 3’ and through two tiers of wire shelving stacked with trays and lights. What a trip that must have been.

All present and accounted for…with the wee three happily scurrying about the tiny tank by themselves…big guppy to the scud breading tank where he happily gulped down about 90% in the first hour.

I am going to be starting a grand experiment soon…in the secret aquarium lair in the basement next to the floor drain.

Have been raising copious amounts of brine shrimp as food for aquarium inhabitants.

Have an old Tasco Students Microscope Kit that I found at a hobby shop years ago…new in box from the early 70s. In it was a small batch of brine shrimp eggs.

Going to see if I can resurrect them in a good shrimp hatchery after less than ideal storage for 50 years.
