I got bored of trying to make AppleTalk sing and dance on Windows NT and 2000 so I switched to an OS with a good native implementation: IRIX.

I've been messing around with AppleTalk on Windows 2000 via C and C++, two languages I'm just not proficient in and not super enthused about learning. I was considering doing this in Rust, a language I am more enthusiastic about. Just to make sure I wasn't reinventing a wheel, I did a little search for doing cross-platform AppleTalk with Rust and someone published a WIP project *yesterday* that does exactly this!

My goal, I think, is to be able to write most of this on Linux and cross-compile for Win32

The existence of #AppleTalk implies the existence of AppleListen.

@vga256 @byteknight Indisnt even know you could access a BBS via #appletalk. How do I accomplish this given I have multiple Macs on #globaltalk ?

Here's my brother's PowerBook 3400c in all its 12.1 inch glory.
I've been playing with my is for a while now. While it was mostly OK, there were a few things I wanted to figure out:
- I wanted to archive and replace its hard drive before it fails.
- Ethernet didn't work with my gigabit switch, but that didn't surprise me; I believed it just needed a 100 Mbit one.
- For some reason, I wasn't able to get LocalTalk to work.

and then i'll just have to rewire this apartment i guess #appletalk

i can't explain the terror i feel every time my #appletalk network goes down after a firmware or software update.

i know one day `systemctl restart atalkd` won't be enough
