Posting this for multiple reasons: while I did sell my Samsung CK4644 CGA monitor last weekend, I still have its twin (Imtec-1464w), which has the same case, controls, features and stripe width (think dot pitch but for slot mask) of .41mm. Just like the Samsung I need to open it up and clean up comically seized potentiometers plus the mono/color switch (a neat feature most CGA monitors didn't have).

The second reason was to share my favorite TUI of the mid to late 80s - AppleWorks 4.0 for the Apple II. Simple and intuitive and can be used with a mouse (though back then we didn't have a mouse on our Apple IIe clone, that card was expensive).

Yes, most people get back into retrocomputing for the games, but for me it's also the other software and utilities, partly because they worked even with fairly limited hardware.

Заборол, наконец, кириллицу!
В принципе, вполне теперь рабочий комп. Есть два прекрасных офиса (MS и #AppleWorks), можно писать анонимки, можно смотреть видео (Quicktime, Real, DivX), слушать музыку (mp3), открывать сайты без выебонов (уровня ACID1-2), почта ходит, есть Flash, Photoshop, Fontographer…

1 гиг памяти — жопой ешь! Своп ОТКЛЮЧЕН!

New to my little physical retro computing collection and love of word processors/productivity suites: Appleworks 6.

This was my main productivity software throughout most of the early 2000s. Such rich features and a wide OS/cpu architecture support spread across classic MacOS through OS X, PPC and Intel.

Booted up my 12" PowerBook G4 tonight. Was looking for a database I started in Claris-/AppleWorks but couldn’t find it. Found myself trying to finally fix my bug in the kPix drawing program for J2ME capable phones, but couldn’t get my tools to compile it. 🙃

Played around a little with some other software on there (SixtyForce with Paper Mario) and thought about how we’re losing so much control of our data in the move to the cloud.

An enjoyable evening (though I was distracted from my primary goals).
