Update: I will not be purchasing bees tomorrow as the local ladies have already decided they would like to move in.
That was FAST. The hive has been setup for 2 hours 😱
After daydreaming about it for 2 years, I finally took the plunge and got into beekeeping!
I picked up my boxes and frames today, secondhand from a commercial operation at a very fair price.
I thought it was too late in the season to get bees and figured I'd just collect the equipment and do some more research (and if wild bees wanted to move in, who am I to stop them?), buuuuuuuut they still had nucs available so I go to pickup my bees tomorrow!
The new apiary is getting full. I had to pull the bait hive down that I had just put back up to take 4 frames out of but I only had 9 total so I had to glue up 5 frames then I reset the bait hive and added the 10th to the deep box and closed it up with a jar of food this evening. It's all on bare foundation freshly waxed. I kept two drawn frames in the bait hive to increase the chance of catching another swarm I don't need.

#NSW police are appealing for information after dozens of #beehives were stolen from a property in the state’s Northern Tablelands.
The beehives – 80 boxes in total, worth about $150,000 – were taken some time between 31 March & 6 May from a rural property about 15km west of #Bonshaw village, 100km from #GlenInnes.
The boxes are described as cream in colour with blue baseboards, blue and white lids and red, clear boards. They were full of #bee colonies. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
The scene of the new beehive location. It's a little sunny in the morning, then shady underneath the white spruce tree (yes, it shoudn't grow here), and then a few hours of blazing hot sun in the afternoon. It's probably not colder in the winter but more exposed to any north wind. This will only be for new hives, too close to move existing ones easily.
The new hive emptied the feeder so I checked on their progress. 6 frames of comb built it looked like all the way to one side. I mixed up some oxalic acid and glycerin and put some OAE pads on it too. There's a bit of a flow now so I probably won't feed anymore and I'll put another box on next week if they have the last few frames built out.
