“When the 25-year-old returned three days later, still bleeding, doctors finally agreed to give her an injection intended to end the pregnancy. But it was too late. The fertilized egg growing on Thurman’s fallopian tube would rupture it, destroying part of her reproductive system.”

Dozens of pregnant women being turned away from ERs despite law

More than 100 pregnant women in medical distress who sought help from emergency rooms have been turned away or negligently treated since 2022. That's according to an Associated Press analysis of federal hospital investigations. In Texas, where doctors face up to 99 years in prison if convicted of performing an illegal abortion, medical experts worry the law is complicating decision-making around emergency care for pregnant women. The latest cases come from two women who say they were not treated for dangerous ectopic pregnancies when they sought help at two different emergency rooms in Texas. Both women lost parts of their reproductive system when the ectopic pregnancies ruptured.

New figures out today from the Labor Department show that employers added 187,000 jobs in August, up but at a slower rate than the red-hot job market has been adding since the pandemic. Unemployment ticked up to 3.8%, in part because of the 37,000 jobs lost when the trucking company Yellow declared bankruptcy. The economy appears to be steadying, with only 1.5 jobs for every person looking, down from the 2 openings in early 2022.

If the #GOP thinks a female is old enough to be a mother, then she should be old enough to vote.

Of course, for them, that would mean lowering the voting age to 11 or 12.
