My Google Alert called my attention to a long, excellent article about Bucky O’Hare and the Toad Wars. This was an animation series I developed in 1990, in collaboration with Neal Adams and Sunbow Prods., based on the comic books created by Larry Hama. Neal had gotten a toy deal based on the characters.
In addition to developing the series, I was the story editor for the 13 episodes and wrote 6 of them.
Because of the article, I am only now, after 35 years, discovering that I was cheated out of my credits. Instead of being listed as the series developer, I’m relegated to an afterthought credit of “creative consultant”.
And my story editor credit was given to Roger Slifer. Roger wrote an episode, and worked on the producer end for Sunbow, but he had nothing to do with the development or story editing.
I contacted the author of the article, who was exceptionally nice about updating the article to correct these problems.
But I’m still pissed off about it. I have no idea who to blame. Both Sunbow and Roger are long-gone. It hardly seems relevant after so long with an obscure series, but I earned those damned credits (and I should get a medal for putting up with Neal Adams, who was fucking insufferable), and I want the record set straight.
IMDB makes it nearly impossible to make this type of correction, plus I don’t have the paperwork to prove my claim. I contacted my agent, but he doesn’t keep records going that far back (no surprise). My own paperwork burned up in the Camp Fire in 2018 along with every else.
Anyway, if you liked Bucky, you’ll enjoy the article: https://www.polygon.com/animation-cartoons/614288/90s-cartoon-reboot-bucky-ohare-star-wars-parody

A new interview that does a deep dive into my development and writing of CONAN THE ADVENTURER, a 65-episode animation series.
I did a podcast interview for Cartoon Dumpster Dive about several animation shows I've worked on. There's an Apple podcast link and a Spotify link.
