Continuing to pitch His Lordship's Landscape, a Romantic comedy retelling of Dracula and how he steals Jonathan's shaving kit because he wants to see what Jonathan looks like with a beard. The pitching process is reminding me how tedious the pitching process is. I get it, this is to cut down on slush, but at least make it easier for authors like me to learn more about your distribution avenues, POD offerings, audiobook offerings, if any. I shouldn't have to look up your publisher on Audible to find audiobooks you've published, after all. #Publishing #AmPitching #AmWriting
Wandering through #LondonBookFair which is bewildering in its complexity. Struggle to find the 12 publishers I have targeted. Eventually find them, exchange emails, leave tasters. Pop round to say hello at Summersdale coz they published me years ago (on dance), and it turns out they started with books of the comedy #travelogue/#wine travelogue type that I'm pitching.. Doh!

Going over the first few chapters of this manuscript before restarting the pitching and querying with vigour, and can I say I really hope everyone is going to love Emma as much as I do. She is probably my favourite character I've ever written. #amquerying #ampitching

In the last two days, I've sent out two pitches for stories I very much want to write. One is a history story that plays nicely into a book proposal I'm slowly working on, and the other is a more timely climate wildlife piece for a market where I've always wanted to work.

They're out of my hands now. Time for a meeting, some dinner, and last week's Burrow's End to distract me.

DEATH OF A MAYFLY
Start your life over, do what you want, go where you want, never get tired, never stop. You can, but only if you understand the rules. It's not forever, and don't even think about leaving. But by all means, have fun. #amquerying #ampitching #WritingCommunity
DEATH OF A MAYFLY
"I'd always walk past our house, nestled quietly on Main Street across from the park. Its tall front windows hid everything inside, except after the sun went down and someone flipped on the living room lights. Then I could see the old place."

DEATH OF A MAYFLY
"Mom loved them, too. 'It's time for the mayfly snow,' she'd write, and we'd sit on our front porch scooping up handfuls of them, making 'snowballs' and throwing them at each other."

DEATH OF A MAYFLY
“I pulled a lighter out of my pocket, his favorite one, and leaned over to give him a light. ‘Here you go, darling,’ I whispered, ‘have a smoke.’ I lit the cigarette and Otis burst into flames.” #WritingCommunity #amquerying #ampitching #literaryagent #publishing #adultfiction #magicalrealism #gothic #womensfiction #commercialfiction #travel
DEATH OF A MAYFLY
"Oh, it's the mayfly snow," I gasped, reaching up to catch one of the little bugs. He looked down at the ground and shut his eyes. "Dammit." And then Tom disappeared. #MoodPitch #AdultFiction #magicalrealism #gothic #writingcommunity #literaryagent #ampitching #amquerying #WritingCommunity
DEATH OF A MAYFLY
“I retraced my imaginary steps all over town, peering through the fence at the playground, looking for scuff marks in the gravel under the swings. I wandered in, leaning over the ice cream case. Lemon custard and chocolate chip mint.” #MoodPitch #AdultFiction #magicalrealism #gothic #writingcommunity #amquerying #ampitching #writer
