The ABC's financial analyst Alan Kohler spent the weekend looking into #CarbonOffsets and #ACCUs. What he found is not good. There have been previous warnings not to rely on offsets, but concentrate on reducing emissions, phaseout of coal, oil and gas.
Labor's Safeguard Mechanism is highly dependant on the integrity of carbon offsets. And that integrity is severely in question.
we are moving into a period of record temperatures and an El Nino period where #Drought and #Bushfires will be the norm. That spells more ACCUs up in smoke.

as far as I am aware here in Australia domestic airline emissions will fall under the #SafeguardMechanism proposed scheme and will be able to offset 100% of emissions with Australian carbon offset credits. The integrity of those carbon credits already under question.
International aviation covered by problematic ICAO CORSIA carbon offsets scheme .
Meanwhile new proposed runways like at Melbourne Airport will induce demand
