Financial analyst Alan Kohler on carbon offsets.
The whole safeguard mechanism for regulating the largest carbon polluters here in Australia is built on using carbon offsets. What a house of cards Labor has established. They use this as justification for not needing a climate trigger in environment laws.
An Interesting NYT article on the possibilities of soil carbon storage in Australia using fungal spores. This will also help in building up the carbon nutrients in agricultural soils. But Australia's #SafeguardMechanism allows Fossil gas companies to offset Scope 1 & 2 emissions through buying carbon credits, which is highly problematic.

Research: Australian human-induced native forest regeneration carbon offset projects have limited impact on changes in woody vegetation cover and carbon removals.
Poor integrity carbon offsets actually enables fossil fuel projects to increase emissions under current #SafeguardMechanism policy settings which allows unlimited offset credits to meet set targets.

Forest regeneration carbon offset projects in Australia show only small increases in woody vegetation cover relative to credited regeneration, and changes are comparable to those in the surrounding area, according to an analysis of 182 project.

Shhhhh... Australia🇦🇺 is already selling Australian Carbon Credit Units to #Fossilfuel companies to #Offset emissions from new #FossilGas projects as part of the #SafeguardMechanism.

Check if your national government does the same "shitfuckery" and vote 🗳 accordingly.
Climate impacts of fossil fuel projects under the Albanese government. report (ACF)
"The total carbon pollution that would result from new fossil fuel projects that have received approvals or other material support under the Albanese government is nearly 35 times larger than the total cumulative emissions reduction that will be delivered by the Albanese government’s signature climate policy, the Safeguard Mechanism, to 2030."
