Hey #AcaTooters, time for thread 2 in academic community, on Research Methodology. The term methodology means a theoretical exploration of your research method (RM) itself. Choosing a RM is the initial part of the research, after your topic. It is ruled not only by what you want to study, but time, resources, as well as the aspect of the topic you want to bring out. In this thread, will be doing things a bit differently, I want you guys to start it with your Qs, will respond n expand #AcaWoes
i made the worst presentation of my life today. I just lost it in the middle. and didn't want to say the words coming out of my mouth. and people said they thought it went great. Who do i believe, myself or the others who heard/saw me? #Acawoes
Hey #AcaTooters, let's choose a topic for this week's academic thread? Also I would like more of you to join, and part of the conversation. Talk to each other without worrying what one thinks. Also suggestions to hold the thread after the ast Mental health (MH) thread #AcaWoes #AcaThreads

Dear #AcaTooters, it's the first interactive thread, and we are ready to talk about our demons, our mental health. Academia is essentially a space that makes you feel alone, you are in your room of library writing your research. If your friends aren't busy with their own thesis, they are busy with their jobs, the meetings have reduced. Your family either doesn't understand what you're doing, or expects you to be the number 1 author. The thread is going to deal with a list of Suh things #AcaWoes
@IshaKaushik haha, no no I wasn't calling you one. I just meant it's a space free for all. Well at the moment, it is going to create a singular space where you can find like-minded people, and see various scholars on the thread, follow ones you want. Now that we have some sort of community, I will start other academic threads with #AcaTooters and #AcaWoes. People on this thread know the hashtags now, and can be part of the new threads on academia and have discussions.
@Paridhigupta @audreytruschke you were waiting for this and it's happening! #AcaWoes #AcaTooters
Field work of any kind, is an exhausting task. It is not just that it's time-consuming, but it consumes you as well. For most of us who use feminist methodologies, field-work is emotionally draining, the way it demands every ounce of attention, empathy, and respect. The qualitative methods ask you your heart with your brain. It is sad that it figures nowhere in one's thesis writing, and there's no recognition of the emotional labour of research #AcaWoes

Hi! I'm a lecturer in Applied Linguistics at the University of York
Am interested in all things to do with language😊 Look forward to interacting with other academics. Great idea to open this thread for a lot that often suffer from self doubt and feel like they are imposters #AcaWoes 😁😁
Hello Academic Tooters (#AcaTooters), as promised, this is my first thread for desi academics (thought not limited to) who want to connect with each other in this new space, and create a virtual support system. Please introduce yourself under here with your name, field, area of research, geographical location (optional). Once we have the thread going, I'll create a list.
Will be also holding future threads on conference, publishing, writing, and other #AcaWoes you can think of.

I know we talk about imposter syndrome a lot in academia, where you feel you don't belong here because of constant rejections, comments on our drafts, writer's block. We also should not hierarchy between disciplines, where standards of one discipline are imposed on another. For example, how field work which is done within 'rural' areas, or archival work is placed above say, discourse analysis, and contemporary interviews. Has anyone else felt something similar? #AcaWoes
