US approves sale of more than 20,000 bombs to Israel

The Trump administration has bypassed congressional review to approve the sale of more than 20,000 bombs to Israel worth about $650m, according to US officials.

Europe is now the world’s biggest arms importer.

According to a new report by the independent Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), in the past five years, global arms deliveries have increased by almost 10% compared to the previous five-year period.

Europe has overtaken Asia and the Middle East as the largest importer of weapons, as fear of Russia increases on the continent.
