Based on this email response from #TTC I would conclude that full resumption of the #512Streetcar on #StClairWest won’t happen until 2025 - after #metrolinx and the city of #Toronto complete repairs to the bridges at Caledonia and Keele, and platform tracks are replaced at both subway stations.

Partial service may resume temporarily between St Clair or St Clair West station and Landsdowne summer of 2024.

It is very hard to figure out based on #TTC information when the #512Streetcar on #StClairWest will return.

The first notices put up about a week before the shutdown indicated that buses would replace streetcars starting Sep 3 until “mid-2024”.

Later, on the “state of good repair” project page ( https://www.ttc.ca/about-the-ttc/projects-and-plans/512-St-Clair-state-of-good-repair-projects-and-third-party-works ) they indicated that streetcars may return earlier, at least for some (1/2)

St Clair Avenue West

For those of you wondering why the #TTC isn’t running buses in the #StClairAvenue #512Streetcar ROW during the reconstruction along the route, they have now posted an answer :

They tested it out and found that buses would be too close for comfort: Centre poles and side curbs were the culprit.

There are a couple of doozies in this article about the #TTC’s #512Streetcar shutdown -- why is the TTC only thinking now about how to run buses in the dedicated lane? Why is #JoshMatlow only “asking questions” now?

The thing that gets me is the response from the TTC: 15 years! Is that all they expect streetcar tracks to last? And this is track inside a station, sheltered from the elements.

Good catch by Steve Munro re #512Streetcar shutdown: not even the #TTC expected streetcars to be replaced by buses for entire year.

As late as last May they told local #Toronto councillors and BIAs to expect “intermittent bus replacement”. Only in august they changed their minds and gave everyone a few days notice for the year-long shutdown.

The Changing Scope of St. Clair Construction

When I published my article about the year-long shutdown of streetcar service on St. Clair, I did not expect it would trigger a wave of complaints on Twitter/X about the scope and length of the pro…

A modest cycling proposal: Since the #TTC has decided to replace the #StClairAvenue #512Streetcar with buses, again, what about using the dedicated lane as a bike lane?

The dedicated ROW will be unused for up to a year, according to the TTC. Left turns are signalized to occur before straight-through traffic, so no problem with bike on the left of traffic.
