Non-fiction
Kory Stamper, _Word by Word_ (2017).
Experiences of a lexicographer at Merriam-Webster. I don’t read a lot of non-fiction, but this book was recommended to me and I found it very engaging, both because of the subject matter but also especially for the personal and often funny stories.
The fiction books I most enjoyed this year, from highish-brow to pretty low!
Paula Fox, _Desperate Characters_ (1970).
James Salter, _Light Years_ (1975).
Both well-crafted; about troubled couples.
Richard Osman, _The Man Who Died Twice (Thursday Murder Club 2 ; 2021).
In a series of old folk solving murders.
Jessie Mihalik, _Hunt the Stars_ and _Eclipse the Moon_ (Starlight’s Shadow 1 & 2 ; 2022).
SF + action + romance.
Emily St. John Mandel, _Sea of Tranquility_ (2022).
The Official List of Everything I've Read in 2022, plus a few superlatives (Favorite Opening Quote, Favorite Cover Art, etc.) and a short list of books I'm looking forward to in 2023.
