1 March, Martisor – Tradition and Symbolism in Romania #Im4Ro - Patricia Furstenberg, Writer of Historical Fiction, Children's Books

The Martisor is a traditional offering of good luck on 1st March together with wishes for good health, happiness and love. Seasonal symbolism of Romania. Charming and pure. Memories.

“It’s not that he doesn’t appreciate beauty, he just appreciates it in his own way. I mean, if a poet sees a daffodil he stares at it and writes a long poem about it, but Twoflower wanders off to find a book on botany.”
Terry Pratchett; The Light Fantastic

Happy #1stMarch ! March is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. The Roman calendar originally began in March, the months of January and February were added later.

Roman mosaic 'mensis Martius', from ancient Thysdrus (El Jem in Tunisia), depicts the rites of the Mamuralia.

The Mamuralia involved the ritual beating and banishing of an old man, supposed to represent Mamurius Venturius, a maker of ritual shields for the temple of Mars.
